Franciacorta – An Italian option for champagne
Best parties are often those when friends come over and you have not planned anything, but then you decide to open a bottle of sparkling and you are still awake at 5 in the morning.
I used to have a bottle of champagne in my fridge waiting for those kinds of moments – before I was introduced to franciacorta by my friend Terhi. Okay, I am not totally saying no to champagne, but as I am a big lover of Italy, franciacorta has now taken more space from the shelves of my fridge.
Franciacorta is italian sparkling wine made with same method as champagne. The grapes used in different franciacorta blends are Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Erbamat. It is made in the beautiful hills of Franciacorta, located in Northern Italy, in the province of Brescia.
Franciacorta is a fairyland between Brescia and Lake Iseo. Sparkling wine called franciacorta is produced in this area.
Franciacorta is a perfect destination for romantic, peaceful and of course bubbly holidays. There are 121 wineries, from small family wineries to big world-famous companies, and you can visit most of them by booking a tour in advance. You can just have a little tour in wine cellars and enjoy tastings, and in some places you can indulge yourself with full course menus with selected wines and franciacortas. Some wineries even have their own farmhouses where you can stay surrounded by the vineyards. I recommend visiting at least a few wineries because they all are very different. The list of wineries can be found here.
Franciacorta is also a place for active holidays. You can walk in the nature and bike in routes named after franciacorta blends: Franciacorta Satèn, Franciacorta Pas Dosé, Franciacorta Brut, Franciacorta Rosé and Franciacorta Extra Brut.
