The hidden pearl of Amalfi Coast: Vietri sul Mare

Amalfi Coast, an iconic place to enjoy the beautiful Italian la dolce vita. Stunning sea views, picturesque villages and the relaxed Southern Italian vibe keep seducing people from all over the world. The downside of it is, that the narrow streets and small paradise beaches are packed with visitors especially in the hot summer months and in the most famous villages like Positano and Amalfi. Therefore I only visit the coast off-season and I prefer smaller villages like Ravello and my absolute favourite: Vietri sul Mare.

Vietri Sul Mare is a hidden pearl that not many know of. The adorable little village is located at the beginning of Amalfi Coast, right next to Salerno. Besides the coastal landscapes and lovely atmosphere, the village has a long history of making the most beautiful Mediterranean-style ceramics. High-quality ceramic factories and shops, ceramic courses and the village full of street art made of ceramics – Vietri sul Mare is full of beauty, joy and creativity.

Even a rainy day is colourfull in Vietri sul Mare.

Irresistible delicious! Cute food markets offer local treats like sweet Amalfi lemons and oranges.

Vietri sul Mare is the perfect place when I want to unwind and get lost in the beauty of Italy. Days go by swimming in the turquoise waters and enjoying the relaxed Italian atmosphere and stunning coastal nature. It’s also fun to take scooter rides to other villages of Amalfi Coast, or head to the islands of Capri or Ischia by ferry. And Naples is not far away either.

In the end it’s always all about the energy; I love Vietri sul Mare mostly because the atmosphere is authentic and the locals living in the village are often warm and friendly. In the busiest summer months Amalfi Coast might feel like a tourist-trap, but Vietri sul Mare always remains more quiet and calm.

Beachdreams became reality. Warm turquoise water, Mediterranean landscape and less people than in most beaches in Amalfi Coast.

The streets of Vietri sul Mare are like an open ceramic art museum.

Vietri sul Mare is the place to shop the best handmade ceramics. One of my favourite shops is Ceramica Artistica di Solimene. The family business was founded by Vincenzo Solimene in 1950´s.

Artisan at work at the Solimene ceramic factory in Vietri sul Mare.

Plates, tableware, wall tiles and ceramic art – all handmade with a beautiful Mediterranean touch.

I sometimes come here only for the sunsets.
